Yes, the ending is too focused on Mei Changsu, Nihuang, and Jingyan. The rest of the cast are just... there. I forget whether or not their fates are explained in the novel (I didn't read the novel).

Sadly, I'm behind on Chinese series so can't give you recs. *twiddles thumbs* Sorry!
